Worcester 18/4
First meeting of 2010 after all the rained off early meetings, it was
nice to get there and find a nice dry day and the track in perfect
condition, both the 250 & 500 JRM's had no winter testing plus Harland
last sat on a bike at the beginning of Oct 2009 so the nerves were
jangling to say the least.
Practice showed that both bikes were flying and Harland looked as good
as if he had ridden the week before, but as the meeting wore on it
showed that all the winter gym training is no substitute for being race
fit.
Harland and the 250 JRM were untouchable in all their heats and final,
with straight race wins through the race card, this gave us the coveted
"Worcestershire Three Pears Flyer" 250 Trophy.
The 500 class started well with a first heat win, followed by two second
places in the remaining qualifying heats, this gave us third gate choice
for the final, it was now starting to show that Harland was physically
tiring fast.
The 500 final consisted of just about all the countries top national,
plus a couple of UK international riders. As the tapes went up the race
was led by international Martin Sturgeon, closely followed by Tim Nobes,
Jamie Rogers and Harland all in very close contention, Nobes and Rogers
managed to pass Sturgeon and a now tiring Harland finished a very
creditable 4th.
For the first meeting of a new season we could not have asked for more
(well perhaps a podium on the 500 would have been nice) the gearing was
set at the beginning of the meeting and a spanner was not raised to both
bikes for the rest of the day.
